Lazy Is As Lazy Does
Written by Carl Foisy
There is truth in the phrase ‘You will get out, what you put in.’ especially with marketing. Sometimes those who manage marketing can simply not do enough, and sometimes even when they are doing a lot, the work can still be done poorly, deeming the work ineffective after all. For us, it’s not about the amount or frequency, as much as it’s about the quality of info, and mix of mediums used to share the info, to maximize the overall effectiveness with a variety of audiences. This is one of our specialties. It’s not all that difficult, and it’s not all that simple, but unlike laziness, our methods require effort and forethought.
Working with locally owned businesses in the South Bay since 2006 we’ve noticed theres almost always someone in-house that has taken over marketing duties in some capacity. In cases when there is no full time or regularly used marketing professional in the organization, typically the marketing responsibility is conveniently given to a younger person who is personally active on social media, or an admin tasked to manage it as a secondary obligation. In these typical cases, the convenience factor fosters a level of laziness that can quickly set-in as normal and accepted. We believe this is particularly bad for locally owned businesses, therefore we do what we do because we want to help preserve the small business community.
We’re also not saying that a full time or regularly used marketing professional in the organization will solve your problems, because even when there is a full time marketing pro on staff, its imperative they’re cross checked and to have their work reviewed from time to time by a third party. This is where we come in and help. We’ve performed hundreds of digital, web, social and marketing audits for local San Jose and Silicon Valley companies, and have helped save money as well as identify complacency issues where time and money were being wasted.
Being that time is money in the business world, one of our goals when working with business owners is to identify areas for improvements. And while marketing laziness is the topic of this arctic, most of our remedies and solutions begin with general guidance and digital literacy. We know that lazy is as lazy does, and have seen several instances where laziness has plagued and ruined marketing plans and efforts, let alone the overall success of a business. It’s not easy to repair a damaged reputation, (we can do it) and much like most things marketing, the solution is normally custom fitted.
