How Much Does It Cost To Build A New Website?
Written by Carl Foisy
One of the most popular questions we get is ‘How much does it cost to build a ’new’ website?’, and unfortunately there is no single price due to several steps, avenues, options and requirements for a ‘new’ website.
While you can find a published rate ’starting at $1800 w/ options’ on our Website Services page, this particular lowest priced package is for a basic 3-page website design and build, including domain and hosting set-up services, equalling to an estimated 6hrs of work.
Several times, we’ve been able to help businesses and originations repair their existing website vs rebuilding new, ending up with satisfactory results within less time and for less money. But this article is about building a new website, and the steps required to do it well.
We believe in the ‘measure twice, cut once’ method, which helps with efficiently and overall affordability. Here are some details about the steps we take with new website development.
– Review & Research Current: For new website projects we research website examples and tech to support project requirements and business or organization needs, and (if applicable) review the existing website’s content, data, etc.
– Content Gather & Prep: While collecting (or scraping) content from an existing website is common, there are almost always content improvements that can be made. We use different techniques to display different types of content, and prepare all content for editing and publishing. We can also created all content for a website if needed.
– Build Website: This is when we bring all visual and contextual elements together on a live demo website. Following SEO standards and web development best practices, using suitable creative storytelling and dynamic inquiry capturing, are just a few things involved. No matter if we’re building a basic 3-page website, or constructing a much larger advanced website, we focus on consistency and time efficiently, and all project advancements have approval protocols.
– Review & Refine: Once the initial build is complete, and the heavy listing is done with website dev, we enter a review and refine stage in which we fine-tune the website. Anything from image or text alterations, spacing and pagination improvements, etc. is part of this step. This is also the step we receive final approval for launch.
– Launch & Connect New Website: We handle the domain and website hosting connections required to launch, along with standard url security. This is also when we activate solutions for ADA usability, web tracking and search indexing.
– Test & Maintenance: Once the website is fully launched and live, we test all navigation, forms, functions, etc, and schedule the website for regular maintenance.
– Content Additions & SEO: Websites are built to grow when needed or wanted, and are rarely ‘set it and forget it’ once built and launched. Webmaster services include support for general edits, web page additions, SEO and content marketing plans, and more.
Our process is organized, systematic, and executed with clear communications for approvals and next steps during the project. This is how we’ve found the most success in building new (and repairing) websites, and believe it’s important to share these fundamentals with those considering hiring us to build a new website.
PS…we use human brain power and creativity to build websites.
