Websites Should Work for You
Written by Carl Foisy
At Marketing by the C, we see websites as a business’s star employee. And that’s simply because, unlike any standard human employee, solid websites work for you 24/7 year-round without breaks, can answer many customer questions simultaneously, create clear paths for visitors to become actual customers, don’t take sick days or vacations, and manage to be both helpful and engaging. And here’s the thing: the cost of building and maintaining a website is minimal compared to hiring full-time staff. It’s easy and cost-effective to give your website the attention it needs to be the “Employee of the Year” as well as a strong, critical business tool.
We find it heartbreaking that in 2026, there are still many locally owned Silicon Valley businesses with websites not working for them, and some working against them. And this breaks our heart because we know how easy it is for us to make valuable, cost-effective changes to significantly improve a business’s online presence. Having developed websites in San Jose since 2006, we know the value of good first impressions for a business online, especially from hard-earned word of mouth referrals and organic search results.
Over the years, we’ve worked with plenty of businesses that got burned by inexperienced website developers or found themselves stuck in frustrating situations. Marketing by the C has helped many to get back on solid ground with websites that actually work for them. Sometimes that means a complete rebuild. Other times, we can do what we call a ’Site Flip’ —fixing what’s broken without starting over. Often, it’s about implementing overlooked best practices and putting smart solutions in place. Best of all, these are simple fixes that show immediate results.
One thing we’re seeing more of lately in this new age of ai: AI-powered “all-in-one” website and marketing platforms marketed as solutions that work for you. But here’s what we’ve observed: none of these have matched what a skilled human can do, and they haven’t actually made website management easier. In our experience, these AI-driven systems (sold to business owners as affordable, convenient, and easy) often lead to websites and marketing efforts getting neglected quickly. The reality is different when you take the time to properly build and manage a website with focused, smart, and sustainable methods. Good work still matters, and it’s absolutely achievable.
